Here we present a pilot study using MagSi-S NH2 1.0 magnetic particles as generic particle for covalent attachment of any kind of lectin. The wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), has been used as lectin example.
It could be demonstrated that the MagSi-S NH2 beads provide an effective tool for any kind of lectin based glycoproteomics study. -

MagnaMedics Diagnostics B.V. has developed a high magnetic content bead type with a size of 1.2 μm and 1.0 μm. The use of a new developed novel ferro fluid (Mag-Ferro) with an magnetisation of up to 40 emu/g allows MagnaMedics to upgrade the catalogue products. Raising the magnetic content from formally 30 – 40% to 40% - 55% enhances the time to magnet significantly.

Protein A and protein G are recombinant proteins that bind with high affinity to the Fc portion of several classes and subclasses of immunoglobulin (IgG´s) from a variety of species. Specific antigens are bound in a second step reversible towards the bound IgG. A following washing step and elution by pH shift generates the purified target protein under native conditions. MagSi protein A and G beads can be regenerated and reused several times (up to 10 times), incl large volume scales.
