MagnaMedics develops and commercializes products for Life Sciences, and more specifically for in vitro diagnostics, medical imaging and drug delivery. Thanks to its expertise and staff, we also provide a business-to-business service for those trying to develop sustainable nanomaterials and responsible stewardship of nanoproducts.
MagnaMedics was founded in Aachen (GE) in 2003 and since then we produce magnetic nano- and microparticles that are used in diagnostic kits for determination of biomarkers in body fluids. We have a flexible production which allows us to tailor-made or customize our standard products to the demand of the users. We are focusing more and more on proteomics, and more specifically on the high-quantity (mg) isolation of proteins as well as on research customers active in high-throughput screening of biomarkers.
MagnaMedics also develops drug delivery tools and enables medical devices for imaging in MRI using its MagnaFy technology. “Diagnostics, imaging en therapy are the key-words for personalized medicine ” according to  Paul Borm (CEO/CSO) . “In addition the convergence between life sciences and nanotechnology is part of our mission and driver for many new developments and we are in the middle of this”. MagnaMedics goal for the next three years is to further extend its development and production and after its second round investment the company moved in january 2009 from Maastricht (Biopartner) incubator to the Chemelot campus (Geleen, NL).

Across borders
Upon its start in Maastricht, MagnaMedics obtained start capital from regional investors in the South of the Netherlands, including LIOF en het Technostartersfonds Zuidoost Nederland B.V. (50% NV Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij en 50% NV Industriebank LIOF). For further growth,  MagnaMedics obtained in october 2008 a significant sum by a  consortium of two new German venture funds (S-UBG from Aachen and  BSVG from Munich) and Limburg Ventures ( LIOF and DSM). The investors and shareholders across the Dutch-German borders underlines the international profile of MagnaMedics and activities.”  At the moment MagnaMedics has 12 employees, with a signifcant share active in research and development.

Where are we based?
MagnaMedics is based at Chemelot (www.chemelot.nl), which is the industrial park that hosts DSM and 60 more top-companies in an industrial campus linked to an Research & Business Campus. Chemelot is an important player in Western Europe in material sciences en life sciences.  Chemelot is centrally located in NW-Europe, has a good infrastructure and excellent connections across borders. Chemelot offers chemicals, utilities, facilities and an innovative campus. With this portfolio Chemelot facilitates both new investments into research activities as well as innovative start-ups en chemical installations. Various companies at the Chemelot site are ranked among the highest on the world ranking of best-performing companies. We have an operational synergy with several companies on campus such Basic Pharma BV, ChemTrix BV, DSM Resolve and DSM Biomedical. In addition the Biomedical Materials program officed is located on the campus.
